26.10.2007 To be able to make the best possible decision on an impending new investment at their waste water treatment plant in Apeldoorn, the District Water Board Veluwe invited four Western European centrifuge manufacturers to simultaneously treat the original sludge in parallel under field conditions at the waste water treatment plant with its 350,000 population equivalent. Based on area, Apeldoorn is the largest municipality in the Netherlands, but with a population of only around 150,000. Westfalia Separator Environmental Systems, Oelde, clearly came out on top in the comparison test and also dictated the pace in the ensuing tendering phase. The comparison test conducted with the original sludge from the waste water treatment plant ultimately resulted in the award of a contract for three type UCD 536 decanters. Spot landing: Technical performance convinces The mobile container unit from Westfalia Separator Environmental Systems was quickly installed and the first dewatered sludge gushed from the decanter after less than two hours. The four competitors had a great sporting comparison contest for a whole week. The operators of the waste water treatment plant had set up a test programme with different settings which all four applicants had to complete. The assessment included parameters like flocculent consumption, the degree of separation of the separable substances, the dry substance of the discharged cake – all at different throughput capacities. Westfalia Separator achieved a spot landing with the type UCD 536 decanter used, convinced with its technical performance and won the comparison test in accordance with the specifications of the invitation to tender. The fact that the offer submitted was also spot on rounded off the performance of Westfalia Separator Environmental Systems in the Netherlands. Completely satisfied, the Apeldoorn waste water treatment plant awarded the contract for three UCD 536 decanters, which commenced their parallel operation in autumn 2007.
15.09.2007 The future of beer filtration is kieselguhr-free and profitable. The Westfalia Separator PROFI® system combines centrifuge and membrane and is in this way setting standards in beer filtration. Westfalia Separator PROFI® frees the brewery from costly kieselguhr treatment, quality losses and superfluous storage tanks. The complete filtration process flows with maximum yield and easy change of beer types. Westfalia Separator Food Tec GmbH will be showing Westfalia Separator PROFI® on the exhibition stand. Beer recovery Depending on the process, different volumes of yeast and tank bottoms are produced during the fermentation and storage of beer. In most cases, they still contain a substantial quantity of beer which must be recovered in economical process management. With the use of separators, decanters and membrane installations, as fresh as possible processing of the yeast and tank bottoms (e.g. direct from the fermentation tank) achieves a good quality of the recovered beer. As a subsidiary of Westfalia Separator AG, a company of GEA Group, Westfalia Separator Food Tec has made a name for itself in the design and production of separators and decanters in the fields of application: beverage and dairy technology as well as oils and fats processing. Every separator and every decanter incorporates the experience and competence of more than 110 years in the construction of centrifugal separation technology. The know-how of the entire Group and the results of the customers achieved in the field are utilised for the development of ready-to-connect system solutions. This concept is rounded off by Westfalia Separator’s move into membrane filtration. So Westfalia Separator is now in a position to offer the complete process chain right up to polishing. As a result, users increase the economy of their installations through the intelligent coordination of centrifugation with membrane filtration. |
